Curriculum Mapping
Planning requires you to assess where you were in your course, and plan for course modifications to ensure continuity of instruction, changed access to students, etc. This is the content mapping that has begun individually, within grade levels or within departments. Above all, because you are working with unexpected limits, we advise you to observe (and encourage your students to observe) reasonable expectations for success and flexibility.
Questions to further guide your mapping:
Determine realistic goals for the circumstances
What can I realistically accomplish during this time period?
What learning outcomes (still) need to be addressed?
How can I add structure to keep students engaged in course content?
Which assignments might I keep, modify or cut?
Can I assess understanding with more feedback and less grading; can I focus on a few key conversations or ideas?
Consider technology access
What is my students’ access to the internet and necessary technologies?
Have I asked?
Can our district help?
Review your plans and content maps; prioritize how the course content will be delivered
How can content best be delivered (e.g., live via WebEx;
recorded teaching and modeling , links to video or pdf content, etc.)?What existing resources created by me or others (e.g., TED Talks, YouTube videos) could be used?
What course materials do I need to create?
We’ve established working spaces for elementary, secondary, and Adult Ed where teams can share documents and collaborate across sites as needed. Also, here is a helpful mapping tool that you may adapt for your use.
