Distance Learning

Distance Learning: The Spectrum of Online Learning

Remote instruction is moving content designed for face-to-face instruction online for limited or one-time-only course instruction.

Online Teaching and Learning is the purposeful design and implementation of an online course to support online teaching and learning. Courses are designed and facilitated according to best practices for online teaching and learning.

Now that you have developed some remote habits and connections with your students you will likely begin a more refined design and implementation of our curriculum; as you and your students get confident you will see more opportunity for creativity and additional strategies or technologies to introduce.

We also encourage you to keep the following in mind:

  • Keep it simple – Everyone’s definition of keeping it simple will be different, but we encourage you to choose activities and approaches that you can manage. Reflect on what has worked and think about creating a “base” recipe for each week.

  • Be honest and transparent – communicate with your students about the challenges we are all facing as we attempt to do something new within a limited narrow frame. Let them know what you’re trying to do and ask for feedback or help, from them, from your colleagues, or DJUSD supports.

  • Be kind to yourself – this is a challenging time for everyone. Things will not go as planned. The technology may falter. Students may have access challenges. Things will happen. Do your best but also be kind to yourself, things will not be perfect. Modified from: https://instructionalcontinuity.georgetown.edu/
